Charis: We Heal Together.

Education Events

At Charis, mental health means more than having the highest-quality in-person sessions; it takes community education. That’s why our therapists go to faith-based spaces to help bring relevant mental health training and education to staff and laity alike.

Our Event Goals Are Simple:

1) Eliminate the stigma that still pervades some faith communities.

2) Equip the church with quality mental health education.

Trauma-Informed Basics

Depending on how it is handled, altar calls, confession of sin, and confiding in a trusted teacher are all times that can bring tremendous healing, or major 'church hurt.'  Often, the difference comes down to knowing a few basics. This 1 to 2-hour session is designed to help those ministering in Christian contexts, such as church or school staff, better understand how to sensitively approach high-intensity moments with care for those in distress, notice signs of related trauma, and discern when to recommend professional therapy.

Mental Health and Spiritual Growth Talk

In the spirit of Pete Scazzero’s work around emotionally healthy spirituality, Abe Figueroa (Charis’ Director of Advocacy and Education) will speak to youth and/or adults on the interrelationship between mental health and spiritual growth. This talk is also a great introduction to our third offering.

Social Media Discernment Talk

Social media offers an opportunity to deepen connections with friends and family and make major impact for the Kingdom of God. Yet, most of us know that what started as a way to connect has turned into a form of distraction. We offer an in-house-designed tool to help participants discern their own social media use and offer helpful guidance on how to use social media in accordance with their values.

It’s All Free!

Thanks to the generous Charis donor community and a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, all our educational offerings are completely free for you.

Next Steps:
